Roof Vent Rain Noise

We recently installed an island range hood with rigid ducting venting through roof.

This is very loud and sounds like rain on a tin roof right above my head. Remove the screws holding the vent in place. If the noise drives you crazy new spring loaded backdraft dampers 9 to 30 depending on the size should solve the problem. Silent roof will stop the great majority of rain noise on any composite roofing structure to a mere whisper.

Roof noises may be described as those attributed to an obvious source. The rain water then trickles through the lattice then drips on to the original roof surface and away in to the rain water drainage system. Lift up the edges of the surrounding roof shingles so you can see the edges of the vent. The material is black in colour and is uv stabilised.

Rain noise from roof vent cap. The vent hood ducts through a rigid or flexible pipe to a cap on the roof or side of your home. The problem is when it rains the sound transmits through the ducting down to the range hood. The patter or even the roar of falling rain or hail popping and cracking noises perhaps due to thermal expansion and contraction of roof coverings metal roofing or roof structure and transmitted noises from other external sources such as low flying aircraft or nearby trains or auto truck traffic from a nearby highway.
