Rv Check Valve Problem

The problem was a bad check valve on the water pump.

When this little known part fails it allows water to flow backward through the pump into the freshwater tank anytime you re hooked up to city water. Inside is a plastic check valve plunger a spring retaining clip and small rub. I had a problem finding these check valves for my rv water heater locally. The pump check valve may be stuck.

Check for a rebuild kit for the water pump and find out if the internal check valve is a user serviceable part some art some are not. Check amazon or rv water filter store for options. The fix is easy and you can probably do it yourself. Winterized the rv water pump last year and i can t get to work this year.

With some of the other issues above you may need to replace parts such as the belt impeller screen to the in line filter element pump wiring etc. There are several things you need to check to ensure your water pump is working again. You can always hire a plumber to evaluate the problem or call the rv manufacturer.

First check to see if the shut off valves are open. The valve is designed to let pressured city water enter the rv s plumbing system when hooked to a charged hose bib via your water hose in an rv park and prevent the water pump from pumping water out of your potable water tank onto the ground when not hooked to a charged hose bib. The valve is meant to prevent city water from leaking into the fresh water tank. Our city water connection has been weeping water when using the onboard water pump and fresh water tank for dry camping. Second check to see if you left the drain open when filling up the water tank. Go whole hog and replace the pump itself.
